5 WAYS TO WANDER: The Art of Flying Cheap, Fashion Meets History, and Take a Coffee Break
20 December, 2024 | Welcome to 5 Ways to Wander. Here are five fresh ideas to inspire your next adventure!
#1 This Week’s Travel Hack:
Mix and Match Airlines. Booking one-way tickets with different airlines can sometimes be cheaper than a round-trip ticket with the same airline. Compare one-way fares on different carriers using flight comparison tools like Google Flights or Skyscanner to find the best deal.
By mixing and matching, you can also take advantage of budget airlines for shorter, less expensive flights and full-service airlines for longer hauls.

#2 Destination of the Week:
Milan, Italy. Milan is a city that dazzles at every turn. A place where Gothic spires pierce the sky and runways spill onto cobblestone streets. It’s home to the stunning Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral) which took 600 years to build!
It’s also home to The Last Supper by da Vinci, whose genius is ubiquitous across the city. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the world’s oldest shopping malls, feels more like a glittering cathedral of style, with its soaring glass dome and mirror-like mosaic floors.

#3 Cultural Insight:
Fika – The Swedish Art of Pressing Pause. Coffee, cake, and conversation… but make it scandinavian.
Fika is Sweden’s way of turning a coffee break into a sacred ritual. The idea? Slowing down, savoring the moment, and, dare I say, enjoying life.
Even workplaces embrace it. In offices across Sweden, people literally stop what they’re doing (usually twice a day) to fika together. There’s no rush, no frantic scrolling through emails or worrying about deadlines.
The Swedes, it seems, have collectively agreed that life is better when punctuated by moments of caffeinated calm. Of course it helps if there’s also a cinnamon bun in the picture.
#4 Travel Quote to Ponder:
“Travel is like knowledge: the more you see, the more you know you haven’t seen.”
― Mark Hertsgaard
#5 Question for You:
If you could live in any city or country for a year, where would it be and why?
