5 WAYS TO WANDER: An underrated safety hack
23 May, 2025 | Welcome to 5 Ways to Wander. 🌍✨
I was in Sofia last week, trying to grab dinner but got turned away from 4 restaurants (they were all packed because weekend rush)!.
At the 5th spot, the manager asked everyone in the queue if we’d be cool sharing a table together since it was the only way to get seated quickly. We were all strangers but said “sure!” 👀
Ended up having great convos, sharing stories, and by the end of the night we were swapping numbers. Just goes to show how the best memories are created when you start saying yes to a little spontaneity!

#1 This Week’s Travel Hack:
🪪 Grab a Card at Your Hotel (Before You Leave the Lobby). As soon as you check in, ask the front desk for a business card (most hotels have them by the counter). If you’re in a place that doesn’t have one – say, a hostel or Airbnb, take a printout with the address or write it down to have it handy.
This way:
- If your phone dies, you still have the address on paper
- If you’re lost or need a taxi, you can just show the card
- If you’re in a non-English-speaking country, it’s a language-proof solution
It’s old school, I know, but INCREDIBLY useful.

#2 Destination of the Week:
🇩🇪 Düsseldorf, Germany. Did you know that Düsseldorf is home to the world’s longest bar?
Technically a street, it stretches through its Altstadt (Old Town) with over 300 pubs and bars lined up side by side. It’s basically a party paradise where you can hop from one place to the next, tasting the city’s signature Altbier along the way (served in slender glasses, NOT beer mugs).
Düsseldorf isn’t just about great nightlife, though. It’s known for its fashion scene and buzzing art galleries. The skyline dotted with sleek skyscrapers contrast beautifully with historic buildings and the Rhine River cutting through the length of the city.
Plus, you can’t visit Düsseldorf and not bring home its signature mustard sauce; that’s criminal.

#3 Cultural Insight:
🇸🇮 Slovenians love bees so much, it’s a part of the school curriculum. Beekeeping is a deeply ingrained part of Slovenia’s national heritage and identity. The country is renowned for its high-quality honey and traditional beekeeping methods that have been passed down through generations. 🐝
Many Slovenian schools have beekeeping clubs and educational apiaries. Students learn how to care for bees, their biology, and the art of honey production, fostering a sense of respect and responsibility toward these vital pollinators from a young age.
No wonder that Slovenian beekeeping is recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
Fun Fact: Slovenia was the first EU country to provide legal protection to bees.
