5 WAYS TO WANDER: Dirty Laundry & Thermal Magic

6 June, 2025 | Welcome to 5 Ways to Wander. 🌍✨

This morning I was sipping my coffee, and it struck me how easily routines become cages. I thought about how, when you travel, even the smallest things – ordering food, finding your way somewhere – require presence, intention. Maybe that’s why we feel more alive when we’re far from home: we remember to pay attention.

Let’s explore some wanderful ideas that demand our attention … 💭

#1 This Week’s Travel Hack:

➡️ Use a Mesh Laundry Bag for Dirty Clothes. Pack a small mesh laundry bag (or any bag) to keep your dirty clothes separate from clean ones. This helps keep your luggage organized and prevents your clean clothes from stinking or getting contaminated.

#2 Destination of the Week:

🇩🇪 Nuremberg, Germany. I’ve lived in Nuremberg for 4 years, and I can tell you – it’s a city that sneaks up on you in the best way.

At first glance, it might just look like a charming, old German town with its medieval walls and cobblestone streets. But dig a little deeper, and you find this cool mix of history, culture, and modern life all rolled into one.

The Old Town is absolutely gorgeous, especially around the Hauptmarkt where its famous Christmas market (one of the best in Europe) lights up the whole place in winter.

And the city’s packed with history. From the Kaiserburg castle overlooking Nuremberg to the sobering Documentation Center on the Nazi era (the Nazi trials were held here), there’s a lot to learn and reflect on.

Not to mention, the delish Franconian beer makes it every bit worth a visit. And yes, there are beer gardens – plenty of them. One around every corner.

#3 Cultural Insight:

🇭🇺 Hungary’s thermal bath culture. It’s something truly special. And Budapest is at the heart of it.

The city sits on a network of natural hot springs, and for centuries, people have come here to soak, heal, and unwind.

Budapest’s bath houses like Széchenyi and Gellért date back to the early 20th century, while many others are even from the Ottoman era.

Grand architecture meets steamy mineral pools.

Of course there’s a crane in the frame – there always is one, in Europe

Also, did I say minerals? People swear by the healing powers of the mineral-rich water – for your skin, joints, and soul. So, if you’re in Budapest, head to a thermal bath and soak in the slowness.

Fun Fact: Budapest has been known to host “Sparties” (spa parties): full-on nightlife events inside thermal baths, complete with DJs and the whole shebang.
